Frequently Asked Questions
-
What can I expect?
The initial 1-2 appointments is a chance for the psychologist to get to know you and vice versa. You will be asked a range of questions to understand your history and any current challenges. This is also an opportunity for you to ask the therapist any questions about their approach.
From there, the psychologist will implement an intervention plan whilst keeping in mind that changes can occur and may need to be re-evaluated.
Your therapist will measure progress and ensure there is open communication throughout.
-
How many sessions will I need?
This is highly individual and will vary depending on your support needs. Although Australia provides 10 Medicare rebated sessions per year, this may not be sufficient to address your goals. Please discuss this with your psychologist if you have any concerns.
-
What is a MHCP?
Medicare’s Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) allows you to receive 10-rebated psychology sessions per year. Seeing a General Psychologist will provide you with a rebate of $96.65 per session. You will need to obtain a referral from your GP before your first appointment.
-
Is there a cancellation policy?
If you cancel your appointment within 24-hours you will incur the full cost of the appointment. The rebate is not available on cancellation costs.
-
Do you accept private health insurance?
You may be eligible for a partial rebate with your private health insurer. Please contact your provider to find out more.
-
How often will I need to attend?
Session frequency will depend on you needs. Some individuals require weekly, fortnightly, or monthly sessions.
